Addressing HIV in the context of the HOA Emergency, Lessons sharing, capacity building and planning workshop

Date:
Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - Friday, August 31, 2012
Location:
Nairobi, Kenya

The Horn of Africa experienced two consecutive seasons of poor rainfall in 2011; one of the driest periods since 1995. Although countries affected by the drought have made some recovery, these countries continue to face hardships and the consequences for HIV and AIDS is yet to be understood.

The workshop aims to create a platform for affected countries so that they are able to share experiences, document lessons learnt, and ensure preparedness to address HIV issues in emergencies.

Programmes addressing HIV during the emergency vary in different countries and the workshop will focus on preparation of action plans for mainstreaming HIV in emergency response.  It would also seek to build capacity of country teams to better respond to HIV and GBV related needs in emergencies.

The discussion will focus on Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia drawing on experiences from South Sudan and Somalia, which according to FEWS reports remain in crisis.
