Health and Development Africa

Health and Development Africa Pty Ltd (HDA) is a leading public health and HIV and AIDS consultancy group based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and which is active in Southern, Eastern and Western Africa.

HDA staff is familiar with HIV/AIDS and other public health issues in many sectors, including health, social welfare, education and finance, and have had extensive interaction with NGOs, CBOs, schools and communities. Staff at HDA includes medical doctors, epidemiologists and other health care professionals. The company has particular expertise in policy and evidence-based planning, health and AIDS economics and financing, resource tracking, human resources, capacity development, monitoring and evaluation of HIV and AIDS and health programmes, technical and institutional capacity assessment, and operational and survey research, across SADC countries.

In addition to its own staff, HDA has an extensive network of consultants and organisations in Southern, East and West Africa, and beyond. HDA draws extensively on this in one of its projects, the UNAIDS Technical Support Facility for Southern Africa (TSF-SA). This covers 14 Southern African countries and currently provides 3000 days of quality assured, short term consultant support per annum to HIV and AIDS programmes. This includes working with countries in proposal development and grant implementation for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Over 70% of assignments are done by regional consultants and the TSF has an active capacity development programme for consultants and country partners in various aspects of programme planning, management, implementation and M&E.
