The Regional AIDS Training Network (RATN) is a network of training institutions in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. It was established in 1997 to provide a forum for communication and sharing of experiences between training institutions.
RATN was registered as an International NGO in April 2003 and currently works in 10 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, these are Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana, Rwanda and South Africa. RATN represents a consortium of training institutions in Eastern and Southern Africa and facilitates collaboration on training activities related to STIs/HIV/AIDS in the region.
RATN’s vision is that of “A society with the capacity to respond effectively to HIV/AIDS pandemic” while its mission is “To strengthen the capacity of relevant individuals, organizations and other stakeholders to respond to STIs/HIV/AIDS in the Eastern and Southern Africa region”.
RATN therefore functions as a facilitator to strengthen the capacity of member training institutions and as a forum of exchange of ideas and experiences for developing and delivery of quality HIV training programmes. In addition, RATN has developed a web based information system Training Reference and Information Centre(TRIC) to facilitate wide spread acquisition and dissemination of HIV & AIDS training related resource
