E01. Self-Assessment Framework for the Performance of Joint UN Teams on AIDS � Concept Note and Instructions for Facilitators.

This concept note describes the background to the development of the �Self Assessment Framework for the Performance of Joint UN Teams on AIDS� and its purpose, the conditions necessary for conducting the self assessment exercise, and how the tool is supposed to be used. It includes detailed instructions and tips for facilitators, as well as a simple format to reporting on the process and outcomes of the self-assessment of performance exercise.

E02. Self-Assessment Framework for the Performance of Joint UN Teams on AIDS � Framework.

The primary purpose of this framework is to engage the audience (members of Joint UN Teams on AIDS) in a discussion with the view of reaching a consensus on the level of performance the Joint Team has reached vis-à-vis 10 key performance areas, which have been identified in-line with the spirit and rationale behind the UN Reform. The tool is also designed to assist Joint Teams in establishing targets for performance improvement based on the identification of 3 (or more) major challenges.

This document is intended for facilitators of a Joint UN Team self-assessment of performance exercise, and is to be used in conjunction with the concept note and instructions for facilitators (see E01 above). It includes detailed questions and performance indicators to help the facilitator in trigger discussion among Joint UN team members.

This tool is also to be used during the Joint UN Team self-assessment of performance exercise to obtain a visual picture of the Joint Team current performance assessment as well as agreed upon targets for improvement (for details instructions, see E01 above). It can also be used for the team to compare its performance with that of other Joint Teams. The key output is a �river diagram� which gives a quick summary overview of actual and target scores for each Joint Team. The range of scores is shown for comparison in the form of a river.

These self-assessment tools for AIDS competence are intended to help assess and build the competence of the Technical Working Group to respond to HIV/AIDS. Drawing on �Self-Assessment of AIDS Competence - A Human Capacity Development Framework�, these tools help users assess their AIDS competence, defined as a continuum ranging from 1) acknowledging the reality of HIV and AIDS, 2) acting from strength to build our capacity to respond, 3) reducing vulnerability and risks, 4) learning and sharing with others and 5) living out our full potential.

Interesting self assessment tool developed in Zambia to assess the performance of the Joint UN Team on AIDS and of its Joint UN Programme of Support.

E09. UN Capacity Assessment � Generic Terms of Reference

This document presents an example of the terms of reference that can be used to undertake an internal assessment of the capacity of the United Nations system in a country to support the National AIDS response, and propose concrete recommendations that will assist the UN to create a unique and effective environment to deliver tangible development results as �One�.

E010. Annual Retreat of the Joint UN Team on AIDS.

This generic retreat format, adapted from an event that took place in Zambia in 2007, is intended for members of the Joint UN Team on AIDS to help them design the format of 2 to 3 day workshop to a) reinforce the joint team�s cohesion and capacity to work collectively as one UN team on HIV and AIDS issues; b) provide space for the joint team to periodically self assess its performance, and c) provide the opportunity and space to build up the capacity and skills of joint team members on selected technical issues based on the results of a capacity needs questionnaire.

E011. Training on HIV Prevention for Heads of UN Agencies from BNLS Countries � Agenda.

This is the agenda of the training on HIV prevention and latest strategic info on the epidemic organized 19-21 March 2007 in Johannesburg, South Africa, by the Regional Inter-agency HIV Prevention Group for Heads of UN Agencies from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland. It can be used as model for designing similar training events for UN leadership of other countries.

E012. Capacity Building on HIV Prevention for Joint UN Team members from BNLS Countries � Agenda.
